There are numbers that haunt you.
Not because they’re big or loud, but because they’re quiet.
245.
That’s the number that stopped me in my tracks.
It’s the estimated number of calories the average Gazan orphan is surviving on—if they’re lucky—during this crisis.
245.
In a world of meal plans, protein shakes, and food delivery apps, 245 calories isn’t a meal—it’s a snack. Actually for me, it's not even a good snack. Maybe a small muffin and a coffee. Maybe half a protein bar. It’s what millions of children in Gaza are expected to endure… for days… for weeks… for months. Not by choice. Not for fitness. But simply because there’s no food.
The Campaign
For the next 30 days, I’m committing to eat no more than 245 calories per day—in solidarity with the children of Gaza. I want to feel what they feel. Not for pity. Not for spectacle. But because empathy demands more than thoughts and prayers. It demands discomfort. It demands action.
I’ll be eating what they eat—when they can eat it. A scoop of rice. A scrap of bread. A spoonful of lentils. That’s it.
Why?
Because this isn’t about politics.
This is about innocent children who are starving to death in plain sight.
The Numbers You Don’t Hear Enough
In a world that’s more divided than ever, let me be clear:
This isn’t about taking sides. There is only one side!
It’s about standing with the innocent—the children—who didn’t choose this war, but are paying the highest price.
What You Can Do
I’m not asking you to join me for the whole month. But maybe try just one day.
Eat 245 calories.
Feel the hollowness, the fatigue, the dull ache of hunger—and imagine being five years old with no parent to comfort you.
Then… do something:
Donate generously. Our organization (Humaniti International) and our trusted partners are getting food and aid to the people who need it most.
Share the story. Post about your experience. Tell your friends. Educate your community.
Use your voice. Every repost, every conversation, every prayer helps push this crisis out of the shadows.
If you believe, like I do, that HOPE is only real when it’s shared, then let’s make our abundance mean something.
For the next 30 days, I’ll be hungry. But I won’t be quiet.
